KUCHING: It was the end of the road for a motorcycle thief who tried to act “innocent” in front of policemen at the Tabuan Jaya Community policing centre here at 11pm on Friday.

A sharp-eyed resident saw the youth sitting near the grass verge with a motorcycle near him but the registration numbers of the motorcycle at the front and back were different.

When a team of residents on patrol asked the youth about the motorcycle, he was unable to give a proper answer.

The youth claimed that he was there to wait for his friends to “lepak” (loiter) with.

Police were then called in and although the youth insisted that the motorcycle belonged to him, he could not explain why the registration numbers were different.

He was then taken to the Tabuan Jaya police station.

A police check revealed that the motorcycle was a stolen one.

The youth, who was from a village nearby, is being detained for further questioning.
