KUCHING: The Jiwa Komuniti MADANi@Parlimen Santubong programme aims to instil national pride and awareness, particularly among the younger generation.

Santubong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the programme, which involves nine communities, is a crucial partnership between the government and local communities.

“The programme, organised by the Sarawak Information Department (JAPEN), provides a platform to share government goals and policies, fostering unity and understanding,” she said when officiating at the programme held at Mydin Mall, Petra Jaya here today (Sept 1).

Nancy, who is also federal Women, Family and Community Development Minister added that blending traditional face-to-face communication with modern social media strategies is an effective way to engage the public.

“Our youth need to be aware of what their leaders are doing, the latest developments, and the programmes being organised,” she said.

In stating this, she encouraged leaders and parliamentarians to actively use social media to keep the community informed about government activities and initiatives.

“Collaboration and advocacy from the community are crucial in maintaining a two-way relationship with the government. This ensures that only the most pressing needs are addressed while fostering a deeper connection,” she added.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Information Department director Helmy Hamid said the programme is one of JAPEN’s platforms for disseminating information, current issues, government policies, and initiatives to all segments of society.

“This grassroots approach also involves local leaders or elected representatives to bring them closer to the community,” he added.

During the event, Nancy also distributed RM23,900 in incentives under the NS Excellence Incentive Programme to 36 outstanding students who excelled in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) examinations.

Additionally, she presented incentives totalling RM5,200 to representatives of the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) from the Santubong constituency.
