KUCHING: While many typically seek comfort in hotels for breaking fast due to their diverse menus and luxurious ambiance, the renowned English Tea House restaurant located in front of Kuching Riverbank and adjacent to Dataran Ibu Pertiwi, home to the tallest flagpole in Malaysia, is equally impressive.
According to the mayor of Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Hilmy Othman, throughout this Ramadan, DBKU has appointed Hemisphere Corporation, managed by the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), to serve buffet meals at the English Tea House.
“For the first time, DBKU has agreed for this iconic venue to operate and offer buffet meals throughout this Ramadan.
“It commenced operations yesterday. Insha-Allah, it will continue to operate until April.
“So, I urge all city dwellers, if they seek a unique dining experience, to break their fast at the English Tea House while enjoying the different riverside atmosphere,” he said.
He said this when approached by the media at the opening of the Sukma Ria Ramadan Bazaar officiated by the Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, here yesterday.
It features 82 stalls that offer a wide range of food and beverages.
Sharifah Hasidah, who is also Semariang assemblywoman, highlighted the variety of foods and beverages that were offered, such as grilled chicken, grilled fish, and other delectable dishes.
Speaking at the event, Hasidah emphasised that the bazaar aims to provide the community with a convenient place to purchase food for breaking the fast during Ramadan.
She also urged traders to prioritise cleanliness and safety for consumers, and to pack their food according to the highest standards, avoiding repeated food.
“It is hoped that stall operators will cook using quality and nutritious ingredients for families to break their fast,” she added.
Also present was Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications, Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
For the English Tea House, this year’s Ramadan buffet price set at the restaurant is RM78 for adults and RM45 for children.
The English Tea House, which will eventually serve English afternoon tea and various types of Western cuisine, is located adjacent to Dataran Ibu Pertiwi, home to a flagpole towering at 99 metres.
Previously, the Flagpole at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the tallest flagpole not only in Malaysia but also in Southeast Asia.
