KUCHING: Community harmony and bonding are important in ensuring Kuching to remain a socially cohesive city during the Mooncake Festival celebration.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng along with MBKS councillors delivered mooncakes to the residents of Mental Health Association of Sarawak: The Half Way Home Kuching branch and Sentosa Hospital here.
The purpose of the visits, according to MBKS’ statement today, was in conjunction with the festival celebration and as a gesture of caring for the less fortunate, apart from promoting rapport with them towards achieving cohesion.
“The Mooncake Festival, celebrated in the month of October, is a time for family to congregate and enjoy together as a symbol of abundance, harmony and good fortune,” said the statement.
The residents who received treatments at these institutions have no privilege to experience such wonderful close-knit get-together moment, MBKS said, adding the visits could add further cheer to them.
“So we do it for them even if it is not in a grand way. It presents a wonderful opportunity to bring some warmth to them,” MBKS said.
“These are the vital factors to bring about a quality of life for our people and the key to social cohesion is the continuous interaction among the various groups in Kuching City.”
