SEVERAL initiatives will be taken to further enhance social protection and services under the 2024 State Budget.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that among them is a RM3 million allocation of One-Stop Early Intervention Centre (OSEIC) Sarawak programme, most notably in OSEIC Metrocity, Matang and Kompleks Kebajikan Dalat and for the establishment of OSEIC Miri.

“Another initiative is the early childhood institution fee subsidy of RM2.5 million to ease the burden of parents in paying the institution fee, which will benefit 2,500 children.

“The other initiative to be made available in 2024 is the Post Natal Care Assistance with a sum of RM16 million, which will benefit about 36,000 mothers,” he said.

He added that RM15 million in Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS) is appropriated in the 2024 State Budget to benefit 15,000 children.

“SeDIDIK early education institutions will receive RM20 million allocation to cover its operating costs,” he said when tabling the 2024 State Budget during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (Nov 20).

Abang Johari, who is also the Minister for Finance and New Economy said that Death Compassionate Assistance for Kenyalang Gold Card (KCG) holders of RM15 million will be made available to help ease the burden of the family in bearing the cost of funeral.

“On top of that, the integrated social intervention programme and community support will continue to be implemented to provide access to temporary shelter for homeless and displaced persons.

“This includes RM500,000 for the setting-up of a temporary shelter for low-income recovery community in Kuching, RM500,000 for the continuation of Tempat Transit Gelandangan, RM2 million for the setting up of Special Needs Community Centre (SNCC) and RM2 million for the setting up of the Community Social Support Centre (CSSC0) in Sri Aman, Sibu, Bintulu and Mukah,” he said.
