SIBU: ‘Jiwa Komuniti Madani’ organised by the Information Department is important to create a closer relationship between local residents and government agencies.


Pointing out this, Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) Environment and Public Health Standing Committee chairman, Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie thanked the department for bringing the programme to Mary Geruna longhouse in Sungai Bidut, Bawang Assan here.


“I understand that previously the Information Department has always played an important role in conveying information to the people regarding government policies to benefit the people,” he said while officiating at a Civil Community Spirit programme at Rumah Mary Geruna, today.


He was representing political secretary to Premier, Romeo Christopher Tegong at the event.


In addition, Lau, who is also Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan community development team leader was also happy to note that among the activities conducted were ‘gotong royong’ and tree planting.


“These are activities that SRDC wants to encourage to be carried out by residents to ensure a clean, safe and conducive living environment,” he added.
