SEBUYAU: Sarawak has enough materials to build infrastructural facilities throughout the state for the next 20 years.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing said this can be assured as the granite quarry in Sebuyau was estimated to have 60 million metric tonnes of granite reserves.
“During my visit to the Sebuyau Granite quarry today (Saturday), the owner told me that he has, at the moment, 60 million metric tonnes reserves in the quarry.
“This is enough to implement the state government’s road and bridge projects for the next 60 years.
“Therefore, the government can assure that we have enough to build our roads and bridges throughout Sarawak for the next 20 years,” he said.
He said this to reporters at a press conference at Sebuyau Sub-District Office after paying a visit to the Sebuyau Granite quarry on Saturday (Jan 2).
Masing, who is also the Infrastructure and Ports Development Minister, further said that the 60 million metric tonnes of granite reserves was not the end of it.
“That amount is just the surface. If we dig deeper, the quarry in Sebuyau would become even bigger,” he added.
The Sebuyau quarry has been operating since 1996.
