KUCHING: Wheat grain supply is enough to cover three months of flour production in Sarawak during Hari Raya Puasa and Gawai Dayak.
This is the assurance from the Sarawak Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) following two inspection visits by a team of ministry officials led by state director Datuk Stanley Tan to wheat flour processing plants here on Thursday.
The plants are Sarawak Flour Mill Sdn Bhd, Jalan Bako and FFM Grains and Mills, Demak Laut Industrial Park. Both are major manufacturers of wheat flour in the state.
A statement from the ministry said the main purpose of the visits was to review and obtain feedback on the supply of wheat flour for Hari Raya Puasa and Gawai Dayak celebrations.
“Both plant operation managers were informed that the wheat grain supply was sufficient to cover three months.
“The production of wheat flour from the two factories was 3,000 metric tonnes a month to meet the needs of Sarawakians, where it is shipped from Kuching to Limbang and Lawas,” the statement said.
For statistical records, from Jan 1 to Apr 29, Sarawak KPDNHEP conducted inspections on 15,872 business premises in urban and rural areas where a total 407 cases of various trade offences were recorded with a seizure value of RM2.443 million and compounds of RM85,650.
The ministry assured that it would not let up in its inspections. Instead it would increase its inspections at the manufacturing, wholesale and retail levels to ensure adequate supply of goods during the festive season.
