KUCHING: The Masjid, Bintangor and Haji Taha (MBHT) has been urged to establish a development plan aimed at preserving the enclave area here.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that MBHT needs to adopt a suitable approach to sustain the rights of the Malay community amidst the rapid urbanisation of Kuching.
“We should think about the future, particularly the enclave area situated between Haji Taha Mosque and Bintangor within the current urban renewal efforts.
“God willing, if MBHT can envision the future of the Malay community in the digital era, in the green economy era, in the era of technology, we can preserve the area while concurrently transforming the mosque, Bintangor, and Haji Taha into iconic precincts in Kuching,” he said.
He said this during the MBHT’s Aidilfitri gathering held here last night.
Abang Johari, further said that the government has established the Perbadanan Amanah Satok which includes to initiative to preserve Jalan Kulas, Jalan Satok, and Jalan Haji Taha.
“If our economy remains strong, then with the resources from this new approach, we can develop areas for urban renewal and conserve land and property, while demonstrating that the Malay community can change for modernisation,” he said.
MBHT, is the oldest Malay social organisation in Kuching.
It comprises Malay residents from three nearby villages namely, Kampung Masjid (Kampung Segoleng), Kampung Bintangor and Kampung Haji Taha dedicated to engage in cultural, religious, and educational activities.
Among those present were Premier’s wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Chief Political Secretary to the Premier Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, and Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Hilmy Othman.
