KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development wants all children aged five to six years sent to early childhood education centres.
Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Development Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam said the ministry was working closely with the Education Department to further strengthen early childhood education in the state.
He said the co-operation included on issues related to children, especially in the rural aereas, who are not sent to early childhood education centres.
“At the ministry level, I have helped solve the issue of absenteeism, not only at the pre-school but also in secondary school.
“We don’t cases of children dropping out or not go to school,” he said.
The Saribas assemblyman said this when met by the media after officiating at the SeDidik Sarawak 2024 Team Building programme in Damai.
He explained that through SeDidik, the Sarawak Government was trying to ensure that all children will receive early childhood education from as early as five to six years old.
“The Sarawak government has determined that children from low-income families (B40) are given free education.
“That’s why SeDidik continues to remain as an option for parents to send their children to study. SeDidik is one of the best platforms for early childhood education.
“In the urban areas, I think parents may have more options such as private schools and even now SeDidik has become the choice of our community,” he said.
A total of 203 SeDidik staff members attended the Team Building programme which lasted for three days from Feb 23 to 25.
