KUCHING: The state government is committed to ensuring that Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) areas are safe, clean and beautiful.

Through DBKU, it has implemented several safe city projects at Jalan Astana which include a crime reminder signing board and emergency line, sidewalks, roadblocks and rails alongside safety mirrors.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and DBKU Mayor Datuk Junaidi Reduan inspected the safe city projects yesterday (February 23).

Hasidah stated that DBKU was the government agency which assisted in the implementation of the programme.

“The objective of the Safe City Programme is to decrease the crime rate and enhance safety among the community in the areas.

“This will make the Samariang areas safe, clean and beautiful,” she said.

Samariang assemblywoman added that the purpose of the walkabout was to observe the project that had been implemented under the Programme Bandar Selamat: Inisiatif Pemutihan Kawasan Black Spot in 2022 at the Tupong area and at Kampung Sungai Bedil.

“The programme that was established is in collaboration with other government agencies such as Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), private agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGO), various associations and community leaders among others,” she added.

For the record, DBKU has been involved in the safe city programme since 2011; the programme involved the hotspot areas (2011-2013) and black spot areas (2013-2022).
