MUKAH: Serakup Indu Dayak Begerik (SIDB) through its Women’s Bureau of Rumah Juki is inviting residents of Mukah, Selangau, Balingian, Bintulu, Sibu, Miri, Kapit, Song, Kuching, Kanowit, Julau, and surrounding areas to participate in their free Ngajat classes.
Its chairman Catherine Richard said the Ngajat classes will be held on April 15, starting from 8 am to 12 pm at the Kingwood Resort Mukah.
The classes are free, and attendees can also enjoy the traditional Iban handicrafts and crafts exhibition.
SIDB is an organisation that is dedicated to preserving and promoting the Iban culture, and their motto is “Serakup Ngetan Ka Adat Main Asal Iban.”
As such, SIDB is also hosting several competitions, such as the “Best Air Tuak” competition, showcasing the Pua Kumbu attire, and the Ngajat competition for men and women aged 18 and above.
The organisers have announced that the first, second, and third place winners will receive cash prizes of RM150, RM100, and RM50, respectively, along with a certificate.
In addition to the Ngajat classes and competitions, attendees can also learn how to make traditional Iban snacks such as Kueh Penganan Cuan and Sarang Semut for free.
The event will be inaugurated by Senator Rita Insol, a member of the Dewan Negara.
Later in the day, on April 15, a dinner reception will be held at the Kingwood Resort Mukah to mark the end of the Ngajat classes (Basic Indu Session 01/2022).
The event will be attended by Selangau Member of Parliament, Edwin Banta as the guest of honour.
The exhibition will also feature Iban tools, handicrafts, and products from CC Beauty and Cecelia Lagak of CC Beauty HQ Raban Ngepan Iban Persatuan Raban Ngepan Iban (RNI).
