KUCHING: All licensed travel agents under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) can now submit their applications for tourists through eNTRI and eVisa systems.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi said such effort was necessary to attract more tourist arrivals from China and South Asian countries in 2020.
“Travel associations and agencies are allowed to submit applications in groups of up to 100 people for each transaction,” he said in his speech before officiating at the launch of a state-level Visit Malaysia Year 2020, at Riverside Majestic Hotel here, yesterday.
With this new effort, the minister believed this would further enhance the ability to achieving its target of welcoming 30 million tourists from all over the world.
“We are stepping up promotions and we hope such initiative would be able to attract 3.49 million Chinese tourists and 1.06 million South Asian tourists in 2020,” he added.
Mohamaddin also said that the federal government had launched Gamelan Malaysia under its
promotion matching grant fund.
“The government has allocated a RM5mil special tourism fund to assist tourism industry players in their international tourism promotion.
“We also hope this could help to boost more marketing programmes for both domestic and international markets,” he said.
He further informed that the ministry had invested a total of RM1bil for the development of tourism industry.
„This fund is to provide financial assistance to existing and new companies dealing with or involved in tourism related activities and services, through tourism infrastructure,“ he said.
