KUCHING: There is always a good and proper reason why a party member or leader is sacked.

“Sacking is not done according to the whims and fancies of the committee members,” said Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing.

In the case of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), its senior leaders, Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun and Wiliam Nyallau Badak were sacked on the eve of last year’s 14th general election (GE14).

Masing gives his side of the story.

Masing explained that the sacking was based on their refusal to abide by PRS’ decision on the choice of candidates for nomination.

“Before the GE14 both Entulu and Nyallau told me that GE13 was their last. It was their wish not to contest in the GE14,” said Masing.

Hence, the replacements were put in place long before the GE14. In the 2016 state election, Entulu fought against PRS’ candidate in Tamin.

“His refusal to accept the party’s decision prior to GE14 was the last straw which broke the camel’s back!” said Masing.

On the day before Entulu’s sacking Masing (according to him) was with former Prime Minster Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak who asked why Entulu and Nyallau could not be nominated as candidates.

After being briefed Najib agreed not to have them nominated, but because they refused to budge till the end they had to be sacked, said Masing.

Entulu and Nyallau are now with Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).
