KUCHING: The Repurposed Art Exhibition by Chemsain is an initiative to create awareness on environmental sustainability.
Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian stated that it is great to see artists and corporate organisations collaborate on a dynamic effort.
He said the exhibition located at Chemsain building here provides an interactive way to educate the public.
“Art is an effective way for us to connect as it transcends language and cultural barriers.
“Sustainability can be systematically integrated in the planning and decision-making process of exhibitions in a post-pandemic world.
“As such, sustainability is integral to our way of life and it is profound in today’s socio-economic climate,” he said at the launching of the art exhibition on Wednesday (Sept 7).
Dr Sim who is Public Health, Local Government and Housing Minister pointed out that the world is plagued by environmental issues, some of them being irreversible such as global warming that causes frequent and severe weather, hotter temperatures, and loss of biodiversity.
He said this prompted the need for a renewed and more pressing focus on sustainability around the world.
“We are statistically seeing an increase in numbers of green talent – people specialising in sustainability in the workforce.
“Moreover, governments and businesses are taking a more balanced approach between profit, people, and planet instead of just prioritising profit,” he said.
Dr Sim highlighted that one of Sarawak’s main pillars in the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 is environmental sustainability with a Sustainable Sarawak Blueprint in place.
He said the blueprint acts as a guide to all government agencies, businesses and communities in achieving sustainability goals aligned with the United Nations (UN) Sustainability Development Goal (SDG).
“The blueprint will address concerns related to biodiversity conservation and natural resources management as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation.
“This concurrently creates an enabling environment with modern infrastructure in tandem with the country’s fourth industrial revolution (IR 4.0),” he said.
On Chemsain Konsultant Sdn Bhd, Dr Sim said it is Sarawak’s homegrown leader in environmental consultancy drawing upon close to 40 years of experience.
He also said Chemsain has supported environmental and social causes for many years.
“With their experience and staff strength of close to 600, they are one of the pioneering few in Sarawak to embark on providing sustainability services to support not just the state, but the whole of Malaysia in the sustainability agenda,” he added.
