KUCHING: Nominations for the Sarawak Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (EOYS) 2024 are now open.

Organised by the Sarawak Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment in collaboration with the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), the EOYS aims to recognise and honour outstanding entrepreneurial talent and leadership.

The three nomination categories of EOYS are:- (1) Emerging Entrepreneur for businesses between 3 to 5 years old or entrepreneur aged 35 or under at the time of the closing for nomination; (2) Master Entrepreneur for businesses with maintained management excellence over a sustained period or business founded more than 5 years ago; and (3) Excellent Entrepreneur (Beyond Sarawak), honouring entrepreneurs managing successful enterprises either in Malaysia or internationally.

Criteria for evaluation include exceptional leadership qualities, innovative business strategies, financial performance, commitment to environmental and social initiatives, and the effective use of technology for business transformation.

Emphasis will primarily be on the individual’s attributes over the Company’s and in general, cover amongst others, demonstration of outstanding leadership – vision, dedication as well as intelligent risk taking; company milestones with consideration of industry obstacles and each entrepreneur’s ability to overcome adversity.

Corporate culture, values and incentives; financial performance and growth record; environmental, social and governance initiatives, reputation and contribution to the community that demonstrate the characteristics of a good model corporate citizen; demonstration of resilience in adapting to the business disruptions; and embracing modern technology to enhance efficiency and transformation in the business will also be taken into consideration.

Nominations for the EOYS can be submitted through Sarawak Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) affiliated Business Associations or directly by individuals.

By highlighting the individual or company achievements, EOYS wants to inspire and encourage the growth of small and medium-scale industries, playing a crucial role in fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Sarawak.

EOYS aspires to recognise and celebrate outstanding businesses that are driving Sarawak towards its goal of becoming a developed state by 2030 and honour both established leaders and emerging entrepreneurs whose innovation, dedication, and hard work have significantly contributed to the state’s economic growth.
