KUCHING: The Sarawak Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is focusing on ensuring that the people in the state have sufficient basic savings as their guarantee ahead of retirement.
EPF Sarawak regional director Aminuddin Abdul Aziz said out of 816,328 active EPF members in the state, only 111,782 of them have sufficient basic savings.
“To us, it is important for our members to be aware of the importance of having sufficient basic savings.
“This does not only prepare them to have a safe retirement but also to not put burden on the generation after them where they worry about supporting the current generation.
“When our current members have sufficient basic savings, their future generations may focus on getting ample basic savings for themselves.”
Aminuddin said this when he attended high-tea with the media at Grand Margherita Hotel here on Monday (Oct 16).
Having said that, he also encouraged informal sectors (entrepreneurs, fishermen, and so on) to be EPF members so that they too can retire without any worries.
“To reach out to them, we have our mobile trucks one each in Kuching, Sibu, and Bintulu to facilitate the new and current members to do their transaction and EPF related services.
“On top of the seven physical branches statewide (Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Bintulu, Sri Aman, Sarikei, and Limbang), our members now have easier access to reach out to us without traveling too far.”
For the record, the mobile EPF truck operates from Mondays to Thursdays at four different locations weekly.
