KUCHING: A couple charged with the murder of four-year-old Eric Chang Wei Jie, who went missing in March, will have the case against them re-mentioned on July 29.
Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi set the date for Wendy Chai Xue Zhen, 37, and Ling Kok Liang, 51, pending DNA and forensic reports which are not ready as yet.
The court then ordered accused to remain under remand until the re-mention of the case.
On March 31, no plea was recorded from the accused after the charges were read out before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.
They stand jointly charged with intentionally killing the four-year-old at Lorong 2, Taman Riverview, Jalan Bintawa around 5pm between March 4 and March 7.
The case was prosecuted by Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin who represented deputy prosecutor Tan Chuan Yi while the two accused were not represented by counsel.
Previously it was reported that Eric had gone missing on March 7 while being cared for by his nanny in a residential area in Bintawa.
A search operation was mounted on March 13 around the waters of the Muara Tebas river and called off on March 19.
The boy’s body is yet to be found.
