BINTULU: A barrier to prevent soil erosion will be constructed at Austra Height here to address the issue of landslides affecting the road leading to the residential area.

Steven Kong Kai Seng, the Special Officer to the Bintulu MP, said residents should be able to use the road before Hari Raya Aidilfitri next month.

“The developers and contractors involved have informed that they are taking an approach to construct an erosion barrier as an alternative to ensure the safety of road users, especially residents.

“In addition, the developers have also placed stones to enhance the soil structure,” he said after visiting the area to monitor the situation.

Residents in the area claimed on social media that the landslide occurred more than a month ago but no action was taken to repair the affected road.

According to them, there are over 200 houses in the area and it takes them hours to queue in the affected area to return home.

Kong said based on his observation, the soil structure is unstable due to lack of protection or soil cover.

He added that work is also underway to build a new housing project in the area.

Construction work on erosion barriers is underway for the safety of road users, especially residents in Austra Height.
