MIRI: A Covid-19 male patient sparked a police manhunt after he escaped from Miri Hospital on Monday afternoon.

The 33-year-old man was finally tracked down and detained in his house at Kampung Madinah Batu Niah on Monday around 10pm, said Miri Police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari.

Earlier that day, the man was admitted to Miri Hospital at 2pm after being referred from a private hospital; he had tested positive for Covid-19.

At a ward in the Miri Hospital, the Covid-19 patient was briefed on his condition.

However, around 3pm, the medical staff noticed he was not in his bed when the doctor wanted to review his condition.

ACP Hakemal said that the police would open an investigation into the case.
