KALABAKAN: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) has nabbed seven illegal immigrants and confiscated a home-made shot gun (bakakuk) in a raid at an oil palm plantation here yesterday.

ESSCom commander, Datuk Hazani Ghazali in a statement today said the men aged 20 to 47 were apprehended at about 12.20 am.

He said initial investigation found all suspects were from Indonesia and had entered the country illegally through ungazetted routes.

According to Hazani, one of them who is believed to be working as a plantation labourer, possessed a bakakuk with six live bullets.

“The suspect admitted owning the gun and hiding the weapon in a bush covered with zinc and pieces of wood about 300 metres from the arrest location,” he said and all the suspects as well as the seized item were taken to the Tawau police headquarters for further investigations.

Hazani said ESSCom with the police, Defence Forces and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency are committed to step up operations to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants into the country. – Bernama
