KUCHING: European Union (EU) delegates continued their working visit to the microalgae facilities located at the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) today.
The delegation, comprising 18 ambassadors from European countries led by EU Ambassador Malaysia Michalis Rokas, witnessed the cultivation and processing processes of algae at the facility.
The visit began with a tour of the Laila Taib Ethnobotanic Garden to observe plants representing each ethnic group in Sarawak, followed by a visit to the laboratory to see the products derived from microalgae, classified according to their uses.
After the laboratory visit, the EU Embassy delegation proceeded to the microalgae cultivation site before visiting the research centre and data storage facility for plants with potential applications such as medicines and perfumes.
During the visit, the EU embassy took the opportunity to ask questions, receive briefings from officials, and observe other plants and vegetation present at SBC.
The delegation will continue their visit to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) immediately after their visit to SBC.
