SIBU: Bumiputeras here have been praised for generously donating to the SM Citizen Middle School, a Chinese school, at Jalan Kong Yit Khim which collapsed last month.

“This reflects the values of Sarawakians. Everyone regardless of race and religion comes together to help ease the burden.

“We are very impressed with the Bumiputera community, especially from the Salim area, who set aside race to help others,” Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong said.

He told reporters this after launching the ‘One Person, RM1’ campaign at the Farley Supermarket and Sing Kwong Supermarket Centre at Jalan Salim here on Sunday (Nov 15).

Wong, who is also the deputy chairman of the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), said the purpose of the fund was to help the school rebuild its hostel which was destroyed in a fire on October 23.

“The total donation collected from the public and shop operators at the two commercial centres amounted to RM2,160.99,” he said.
