KUCHING: All parties must play their part in controlling the cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD), said Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
The Deputy Premier noted that the HFMD cases have dropped significantly in the past week.
“The number of HFMD cases has decreased from 822 in last two weeks to 542 cases last week.
“I believe that school holidays are a major contributing factor in the downward trend.
“This is something we need from everyone — to play their part. The parents have to keep an eye on their children by making sure that their hygiene is always conserved.
“Schools and childcare centres also have to regulate their admissions as schools are reopening soon,” he said when attending a blood donation campaign at Aeroville Mall today.
He then noted that the state Health Department has been alerted to always monitor the number of cases throughout the state.
The Health Department has to make sure that the disease doesn’t get worse, he said.
