BINTULU: Environmental cleanliness is not solely the responsibility of the Local Authority, said Bintulu Development Authority’s senior manager of Enforcement & Health Environment Division Mohamed Ansari Mohamad Syed Ahmad.
“It requires the cooperation of all parties for mutual prosperity.
“As citizens of Bintulu, it is the responsibility of everyone to keep the environment clean,” he said when representing the BDA general manager at a “gotong royong” programme to clean the Kemena Riverbank with the Bintulu community at the Bintulu Esplanade Square here yesterday.
About 300 people took part in the programme which was organised jointly by BDA and Trash Heroes Bintulu.
The activity also involved various government agencies and departments, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), clubs, associations and public higher learning institutions.
The participants were divided into seven teams, with each team focusing on collecting garbage and plastic bottles in their designated areas.
The activity aimed to raise awareness among the community and the public on the importance of keeping the Kemena River and the environment clean.
