KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court yesterday sentenced a former salesman to three years’ jail and a stroke of the cane for robbing a grocery shop last year.

Judge Hasbullah Adam handed down the sentence after Tengku  Asmawi Tengku Alaudin, 42, changed his plea to guilty and ordered the man to serve the sentence from the date of arrest on Sept 27, 2017.

Tengku Asmawi was charged with three others still at large with robbing Muhammad Yusuf Yakob, the owner of ‘Usop Jamu grocery shop’, of RM2,000 at Lorong  Keramat Dalam 7, Off Jalan Kampung Datuk Keramat, here at 8 am on Aug 22, 2017.

The charge, under Section 395 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years, and is liable to whipping, if found guilty.

DPP Faridah Nurdinie Bahrum appeared for the prosecution while Tengku Asmawi was represented by counsel, Zulkifli  Awang. - Bernama
