KUCHING: Sabah-born Rahim Yusuf, 67 started his solo bike ride from Kuching to Sandakan in conjunction with his “Kembara Jalur Gemilang Fasa ke-2” which was flagged-off by Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof at Plaza Astana in Jalan Astana here at about 1.40pm.

Rahim, who is also a retired soldier, performed his solo bike ride using a 90cc Demak motorcycle.

Rahim when met by reporters said the journey from Kuching to Sandakan would probably take about a week.

“I started my Kembara Jalur Gemilang Ke-2 ride from Sandakan on 1 August and arrived in Kuching on 9 August and will ride back to Sandakan starting today (yesterday).

“I also carry all my clothes, food, motorcycle spare parts and petrol. I am using my own money and assistance from some non-governmental organisations (NGOs),” he said, adding that the estimated cost of his journey is RM2,000.

Rahim performed his first Jalur Gemilang bike ride around Sabah last year.
He explained that he would stop at several places in Sarawak on his trip to Sandakan.

“A full tank of petrol in my bike can only go around 80kms because of the bike’s small capacity so I will only ride for about four to five hours a day or a maximum of 200kms a day,” he said.

Rahim journey on yesterday will stop in Sri Aman and was accompanied by about 25 members of motorcycle club.
