Ex-technician jailed for stealing RM600

KUCHING: A former technician was sentenced to 12 months in prison by the Sessions Court here today (May 28) for embezzling RM600 of customer funds while working at a security system service company.

Mohammad Shahrifil Arabi, 32, of Kampung Sungai Bedil Besar, pleaded guilty to the charges before Judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi.

He was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code for committing a criminal breach of trust by appropriating RM600 while maintaining an ATM machine at a premise on Jalan Haji Taha on March 31.

The case came to light when the regional manager of the security company received a complaint on April 5 regarding Mohammad Shahrifil’s misconduct.

A police report was subsequently filed, leading to his arrest on May 21. The investigation confirmed that Mohammad Shahrifil, responsible for servicing ATMs, had embezzled the money.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Norshafatihah Nor Azmi led the prosecution, while he was unrepresented.
