SIBU: An elderly man was killed when the excavator he was operating fell into a ravine near Jalan Assan Nunggang, Jalan KJD here yesterday (Dec 27).
In the 3.18pm incident, John Singke, 62, was pinned under the wreckage.
A spokesman for the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the rescuers began extricating the trapped victim using rescue equipment at 5pm.
“The victim was successfully removed and was later confirmed dead at 5.52pm.
“The body was handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement last night.
The incident took place about 400 metres away from the main road and rescuers had to carry their equipment on foot to the scene of the incident.
