SAMARAHAN: The Sak’Art Painting Exhibition involving 20 painters from Sarawak and West Kalimantan (Kalibar) is an effort to dignify works of art in the region
UNIMAS Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim said, the exhibition held in conjunction with FACA FEST 2023 also showcased 34 works from the painters involved.
“Even though Sarawak and West Kalimantan are located in the same archipelago, customs, culture, life experience, sources of design inspiration will certainly produce different works in terms of inspiration and storytelling concepts,” he said.
He said this on behalf of the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at the opening ceremony of the Sak’Art Painting Exhibition here, yesterday.
Meanwhile, Wan Hashim said the exhibition is also a preparation for the graduates to form their identity so that they can have experience, gaining skills and strong will before stepping into the world of work.
He said that the programme not only had a positive impact on UNIMAS students, but also had the same impact on the outside community.
“The collection of works is very difficult without good communication and negotiation skills to ensure that the wishes of exhibiting the best works from the employees involved are achieved.
“The effort coincides with the desire of UNIMAS and the Ministry of Higher Education to produce students who are skilled in theory and even put into practice what they have learned,” he said.
Also present were the Consulate General of Republic of Indonesia in Kuching Raden Sigit Widjaksono, Dean of the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts Dr Musdi Shanat and the Sak’Art Painting Project Director Nurul Syazliyana Safarin.
