SIBU: The Impression of Zhengzhou City and Sibu Photography Exhibition 2023 can promote the tourism industry of both Zhengzhao in China and Sibu, says Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
The Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government stressed that the exhibition organised by Confucius Institute at University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) provides an opportunity to exchange culture, art and tourism between the two places.
“While making progress (in development), we should also take the protection of the historical humanities and heritage value which have hundreds or even thousands of years history into account.
“This will also help the next generations to witness how the ancestors made great achievements in spring under difficult and thorny predicament in the early days,” he said during a press conference held in conjunction with the exhibition yesterday.
The Pelawan assemblyman also hoped that the UTS Confucius Institute could invite photography enthusiasts from Zhengzhou or media practitioners from all around the world to come to Sibu for filming and develop friendship between both places.
“Sibu is a Fuzhao town with a large Chinese population, and UTS is 100 per cent recognised by the Sarawak government. Hence, I hope that the institute can play a role by connecting more students from China to come to UTS to study,” he said.
Meanwhile, the federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said that the exhibition not only could improve mutual understanding and closer relationship between the two places but also encourage exhibitors from two places to unleash their imagination.
“We can discover the charm of our hometown and promote the beauty of Sibu through the lens. Hence, I encourage all photography enthusiasts to communicate with each other through this platform, to improve their skills and levels together,” he said.
The Bintulu MP cum Dudong assemblyman said this in his speech read by his representative Kapitan Wong Hua.
The two-day photography exhibition, which was held from March 16-17, displayed more than 50 photos capturing historical buildings and cultural activities for both Sibu and Zhengzhou and is expected to become an annual event for the institute.
Also present was the vice chancellor of UTS Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid.
