KOTA SAMARAHAN: The expansion projects for the Batang Samarahan and Batang Sadong bridges are set to commence at the end of this year.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the projects, funded by state government project is managed by the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA).
“The projects has been approved, and contractors have been identified. The bridges will be expanded with a dual carriageway road and we are waiting for works to commence,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after officiating the Samarahan Food and Culture Festival (SFCF) at Aiman Shopping Centre here last night (May 10).
Abdul Karim said the timeframe for the completion of the project might be extended due to the bridge expansion.
“I foresee it might take between three to four years to complete,” he added.
Meanwhile, commenting on the SFCF organised by the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), he hoped that it could become an annual event.
“This is because Samarahan offers unique food attractions from various ethnic groups.
“The positive impact brought by such tourism festivals is crucial for sustaining tourism development in any area, especially Samarahan,” he added.
A total of 57 food and beverage stalls of various types operated since last night and will end on May 19.
Also present were Abdul Karim’s deputy Datuk Snowdan Lawan, MPKS Chairman Datuk Peter Minos, and MTCP Permanent Secretary Datuk Sherrina Hussaini, and other distinguished guests.
