KUCHING: Hoan Gallery at La Promenade Mall here will host six local artists for their upcoming ABSTRACT 2022 art show from May 14 until June 5.

“It is my great honour to co-organise this show at the mall,” said Hoan Gallery owner Hoan Kee Huang.

“The artists and I have been talking about, and preparing for this show for months, all artworks will be new and never seen before. It is rare to have an abstract art show in Sarawak.”

Sarawak Artists Society (SAS) newly elected president David Chew and vice-president Sebastian Jong as well as Sheila Kho, Joanne Lau, Michelle Liou and Jane Ling are among the artists featured.

Chew, a member of the Malaysian National Visual Arts Gallery, considered his work to be abstract expressionism in style.

“In my childhood, I was trained in impressionism, and since 2000, I’ve been doing abstracts, I use watercolours, oil paints and acrylic paints. I especially like huge canvases.”
