THE Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) project across Kampung Sageng which has been approved need to be expedited, said Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris.
He said this is due to the condition of the riverbanks along Kampung Sageng and Kampung Tebuan Iban that often experience land erosion.
“Recently there has been erosion of the riverbank along Kampung Tebuan Iban which caused the road connecting the village to be cut off.
“Apart from that, I also appealed to the government that some houses in Kampung Sageng that are too close to the river are no longer safe to live in due to erosion and need to be moved immediately.
“There is a house that is only about five metres away from the riverbank,” he said when debating on the motion in support for the Head of State’s address at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting yesterday.
Awla also requested the government to take action immediately on a dilapidated Department of Agriculture office building at Simunjan.
He said the building that is still being used now was built in the 70s.
“The wooden building is in very critical condition and just waiting to collapse because most of the wood has rotted.
“I have raised this matter before but there is still no action from the government. Here I am appealing for the government to take this issue seriously as the building is not safe to use anymore,” he said.
He added the physical structure of the old building does not meet the government’s target in providing efficient services or comfort to the people there.
