KUCHING: Projects assigned to Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) are targeted to be completed in the next three months.
In stating this, its chairman Datuk Peter Minos said these include MPKS new headquarters, Asajaya town expansion, Tambirat market, the boulevard of plants and flowers, Desa Ilmu Lake development and the proposed waste management park.
“We will meet the consultants, contractors and relevant agencies to expedite matters and cut off the unnecessary delays and procrastinations,” he said after MPKS swearing-in ceremony in Kota Samarahan, yesterday (Jan 5).
MPKS councillors had their formal swearing-in for a three-month term until the end of March this year.
Minos said MPKS will start the new year with two big challenges that needed to be sorted out – waste collection and traffic jam.
On the traffic jam, he extended his gratitude to the police for helping out in easing the traffic congestion while on waste collection, the scavenging contractors had been given three months to shape up following a discussion with them.
“Public concerns come first. They are our priority,” he stressed.
He also called on the many contractors to strictly follow contract terms and agreed schedules, which he said MPKS would surely relook and review after.
“MPKS is fed up of some contractors doing services taking advantage of shortage of our monitoring and supervising staff,” he said.
He noted it will be a very busy three months and wanted the new batch of councillors in April to start with a good and happy footing.
On Sarawak Metro’s Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) project in Kota Samarahan, he said MPKS was happy to see and where possible, help withthe project.
Citing the completion of traffic lights at the roundabouts in Samarahan and the Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa road betterment and expansion, he said these projects meant a lot to the people of Samarahan.
