MIRI: Mulu is set to get the boost it needs to remind nature lovers and tourists it is still a must-visit nature destination.

This tourism “gold mine” is the destination of a group of 68 four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles that make up the fourth edition of the Northern Sarawak Expedition Mulu 2019 hosted by Miri Oil Town 4×4 Adventure Club.

The convoy of off-roaders saw 158 participants from Miri, Brunei, Sabah, Bintulu, Sibu, and Kuching who yesterday began their adventure that will cover 700km to get to Mulu and back. On the way to Mulu, the convoy will make a pit stop at Marudi.

Flagging-off the convoy at Jalan Padang yesterday was Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau.

One of the objectives of the four-day

convoy is to help promote Mulu and the northern area of Sarawak to tourists.

“I believe that through this event, both local 4WD enthusiasts and international off-roaders can exchange ideas with one another,” Dennis said in his brief address.

He said Mulu remains one of the world’s famous nature reserves and the expedition should once again bring it to the attention of the world.

Dennis commended the organisers for choosing the routes (Miri-Marudi-Mulu) for the journey.

“It is simply the best way to get to Mulu, more so because the state government is trying to promote the routes, and we hope people will realise they have options to get to there,” he said.

“Mulu is a ‘gold mine’ for everybody, and it is our aim to bring more tourists to the area and enjoy the panorama and the excitement,” he added.

Also present during the flag-off were Miri Oil Town 4×4 Adventure Club chairman Sufri Hamdan, his deputy Desmond Dawat Kalasi, and event manager Daud Wan Jalong.
