THE government is urged to consider extending the current discount on electricity bill to at least December this year.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said the current discount given to customer’s bill shows the hallmark of a caring government, an initiative introduced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who is very much aware of the struggles of the community due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aside from the pandemic, Dennis said the people are also facing new challenges such as the El Nino phenomenon.
“The El Nino phenomenon is affecting lives of those vulnerable due to unbearable heat. Due to this, families will need to turn on to air conditioning in their home which needs the use of electricity power.
“This phenomenon is expected to last till end of the year. Therefore, I urge the government to consider extending the current discount on electricity bill to at least December 2023,” he said when debating on the motion of appreciation for the Head of State’s address at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting yesterday.
On another matter, he also urged the government to look into the building of Telang Usan District Office at Long Lama and sub-district office at Long Bedian, Sungai Apoh which is long overdue.
“Several meetings have been called and decision and information have been submitted to the authority. Therefore, I urge the government to look into this matter and get this project take off the ground the soonest possible,” he added.
In terms of water supply in sub-district Long Bedian, Dennis said the meter had been fixed years back and therefore he urged the relevant ministry to effect the use of the meter to ensure steady flow of water supply to the consumers’ homes.
