BINTULU: An extension block estimated to coat around RM4 million has been proposed to overcome overcrowding at Bintulu Hospital, disclosed Deputy Minister of Health Datuk Aaron Dagang yesterday.
He hoped that once the construction for the block approved, it would increase bed capacity in the hospital and resolve the currently overcrowding.
Citing on the male medical ward during his visit at the Bintulu hospital yesterday, the bed capacity operated at 200 percent most of the time, double the number of the mess, he said.
He opined that the proposed extension block would be able to accommodate 250 beds.
“We have identified the site for the extension block and waiting for the approval,” he said.
Aaron disclosed this during a press conference held after his visit to the hospital.
He also visited a proposed site for Kidurong health clinic.
Aaron was accompanied by Sarawak State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing and Bintulu hospital director Dr Davis Johnraj.
“For the construction of the Kidurong clinic, we have sent in the proposal for final approval, the site for the project had been acquired,” he revealed.
Meanwhile, the proposed for another two health clinics namely Samalaju Health clinic and Kakus health clinic, the sites for these two have yet to be identified.
Aaron said that they have also proposed a hospital to be built in Tatau, considering that the district’s population was growing.
