KUCHING: More tickets have been made available for the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open 2017 Badminton Championship which will be held from April 4 to 9, at State Indoor Stadium in Petra Jaya here.

According to Sarawak Badminton Association president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Aziz Hussain, extra tickets will be available for those walk-in during the two-day of the semi-final and final games.

“We are now delighted to announce that extra tickets will go on sale starting tomorrow at 11 am, until the April 9 at all authorised dealers and also at the State Indoor Stadium.

“Another 500 walk-in tickets will be provided on the first-come-first-served basis for the semi-final and final matches,” said Aziz during a press conference held at the State Indoor Stadium, yesterday.

“Those who plan to watch the tournament please come early as seat is not reserved,” he advised.

Aziz also reminded those who have bought their tickets from the agent to bring their original copy of the receipt to claim their tickets starting today.

Meanwhile, Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah urged the local badminton fans to show their best attitude throughout the tournament.

“Behave yourself and make your guests feel welcomed as there will be many international visitors attending the event,” said Karim.

Meanwhile, Karim also expressed satisfaction over the preparations of the tournament.

Also present yesterday were Kuching North City Commission Mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai and Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Solidarity Kameri Affendi.

A total of 351 shuttlers around the world are expected to compete in the championship including hosts Malaysia (46), China (40), Chinese Taipei (37), India (32), Denmark (24), Thailand (20), South Korea (17), Hong Kong (16), Germany (3), Engkanf (11), Imdonesia (53), France (1), Japan (24), Spain (1), US (1), Singapore (7), Bulgaria (3), Russia (3) and Egypt (6).
