KUCHING: The mandatory usage of face masks is still important even though the state’s Covid-19 vaccination programme is in progress, said Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
The Utilities (Water Supply) Assistant Minister and Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) pointed out that it is a requirement that will still be a necessity in the future.
Dr Abdul Rahman was commenting on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s remarks on enforcing the use of face masks until the pandemic has been defeated.
“We still need to use face masks even though the Covid-19 vaccination has started to be given to the people. The current situation is not entirely safe yet as the virus is still around.
“It cannot be denied that vaccination will provide a person with more protection but the standard operating procedures (SOPs) must be complied with at all times,” he said.
The Pantai Damai assemblyman reminded that vaccination is not a cure or complete protection from the virus, so continuous measures must be taken to protect oneself and the community.
When asked about his constituency’s response to the vaccination, Dr Abdul Rahman said it has been encouraging.
“The community leaders have been distributing the registration forms and some of them have already registered themselves through the MySejahtera application.
“So far, we have no further information on the location for vaccination but I believe it will be at the Vaccine Dispensing Centre (PPV) in Stadium Perpaduan, Petra Jaya here or at government health clinics,” he said.
