KUCHING: The authorities for the Batu Kawa Ang Cheng Ho quarry lake’s beautification project are now planning to construct nearby facilities in the area, including car parks.
According to the statement by the Batu Kawa service centre, the said project’s main building is nearing completion.
With that, Deputy Premier, who is also the Batu Kawa assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, commended the construction team for their effort and cooperation in making the progress go smoothly.
“I believe that once the project is fully completed, it will become a beautiful and attractive attraction,” he said.
It stated that the main building of the project is 10 storeys high, of which eight storeys are in the lake.
“Phase one of the quarry’s beautification project, which costs RM9.8 million, consists of a 19,375-square-foot event hall that can accommodate 1,000 people, a basketball court and a 3,000-square-foot creative hub office for young entrepreneurs that will all be in the lake.
“Future development plans also include water sports, extreme sports, parks and recreation facilities,” said the statement.
For the record, on July 11, 2020, the Padawan Municipal Council appointed a surveyor and architect for the development of the said project, after which a tender process was conducted by the council.
The commencement of the project’s first phase work started on Nov 16, 2020, for a period of 15 months by Tenaga Sri Wangsa S/B.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated the earth-breaking ceremony for this development project on Jan 5, 2021.
