KUCHING: When facing any form of crisis, the most important thing one must do is take a step back.

Blankskript Consultants Director Feroz Hayat Khan said this in response to a question by New Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Jeniri Amir.

“Understand first why is it happening, and avoid repulsive response, because we tend to respond to a crisis with emotions,” he said.

He stated that risk management should be applied before any crisis even happened to be able to avoid it.

“When you have risk management in place, you do not have to think hard about how are you are going to mitigate the crisis.

“Plus, from the risk management itself, you can at least identify any of the likelihood impact that is low, high or severe, then you can choose what to do next, whether you want to avoid and mitigate the risk or otherwise,” he said.

He said this during a seminar titled Critical Thinking in A Post-Pandemic at New Sarawak Tribune’s office on Tuesday (Feb 21).

Feroz said a leader should always be the last person to speak when it comes to discussion on the mitigation of risk.

“Which means, you need to listen to everyone first, and ask questions.

“From there, you can get opinions and perspectives from everyone involved. The more you listen, the more you understand the problem,” he added.
