PADAWAN: Police arrested a factory worker for lodging a fake police report claiming that he was robbed by two men on Monday (Apr 24).

Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the 20-year-old was busted after the police uncovered his trick to fool the authorities.

The suspect admitted lodging a fake police report because he had used his mother’s money amounting to RM3,200 to settle debts with a unlicensed money lender and gambling.

“Investigation found that the suspect’s mother had asked him to send the money to his grandmother to be used for building a house.

“The suspect then threw his bag and personal documents into Sarawak River after using his mother’s money,” he said.

Earlier, the suspect had lodged a police report claiming he was robbed around 7.45 pm while riding a motorcycle near Taman Sri Moyan, Jalan Batu Kawa-Matang.

In the report, the suspect claimed that two unknown men stopped him, punched him and held a machete at his neck.
