KUCHING: An afternoon fire yesterday destroyed a room in a vacant factory at Demak Laut Industrial, Jalan Bako, here.
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Petra Jaya and Tabuan Jaya stations were deployed to the scene after receiving a distressed call around 2.43pm.
On arriving, the team found that the fire occurred on the second floor of the empty factory.
They ascertained that the premises was beyond saving and the team only performed the extinguishing deed using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team wrapped up the operation and headed back to their stations.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
