KUCHING: Works Minister, Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Yusof  yesterday morning graced the thanksgiving ceremony held in conjunction with the proposed construction of a RM350,000 surau at SK RPR Jalan Astana, Petra Jaya here.

The state government has allocated RM200,000 towards the cost of the surau while the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) has collected RM80,000.

During the thanksgiving ceremony yesterday, Fadillah agreed to top up the remaining cost of construction. 

PTA members led by the Chairman, Yul Haidzir Bin Razali Bujang, showed Fadillah the plan for the surau and the proposed construction site.

Construction of the surau is expected to start soon. Its purposes are to provide a conducive environment for prayers and religious activities, to improve praying facilities and to encourage group prayers in the school.

SK RPR Jalan Astana has 62 teachers and 979 pupils.
