KUCHING: The Madani concept of upholding harmony and unity among Malaysians must be practised by the society at large.

Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof emphasised the core value of Madani is the spirit of respecting one another.

He added that although Madani is an Arabic term, it is not specifically aimed at Muslims only. It is, however, a concept of civilisation within the country that unites and develops its nation in terms of economic, social and other contexts.

“Our nation has multiple races, cultures, and beliefs therefore, we do not want any conflict among the people to happen as it can disrupt the harmony and stability that we have.

“When it is disrupted, the economy will also be affected and it will worsen our situation. With that, I hope that our society will prioritise unity among one another so that we will be able to live in peace and create wealth for our country,” he said.

He said this when attending the Jiwa Madani Jalinan Kasih Ramadan programme at surau Kampung Gita Lama today.

He also reminded the media practitioners and social media users to highlight on the positive issues instead of focusing on the negative happenings.

“I want our community to be responsible individuals. If we were to highlight the good things, we can see that there is a lot of positivity around us and eventually, we will be able to cast away the negativities.

“We may not be able to control social media the way we want but spreading positivity around is possible with the help of the media practitioners and everyone in general,” he said.

Earlier, Mahabah Kuching Welfare association in collaboration with the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen) Sarawak presented donations in the form of dry food in conjunction with the month of Ramadan to a total of 30 asnaf from Tupong, Samariang, and Satok constituencies.
