KUCHING: Sarawak mourns the loss of a distinguished leader and respected figure who made significant contributions to the country’s development, particularly Sarawak said Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his condolences via his Facebook post yesterday after receiving the news of the passing of Senate President Datuk Mutang Tagal.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of YB Senator Datuk Mutang Tagal, Speaker of the Dewan Negara, who peacefully passed away this morning, at the National Heart Institute (IJN), Kuala Lumpur.
“My heartfelt condolences to the entire family during this difficult time. May they find strength and solace in facing this profound loss,” he said.
Fadillah said that originating from Lawas, Sarawak, Mutang was a trailblazer, being the first Orang Ulu appointed as Speaker of the Dewan Negara.
“His service as a Member of Parliament for Bukit Mas, Sarawak, from 1982 to 1990, further exemplifies his dedication to public service and his community,” he added.
