KUCHING: Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof will be defending his Petra Jaya parliamentary seat for the fifth time in the 15th general election (GE15).
He stated that he would work hard to ensure victory for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and to ensure that development as well as the wellbeing of his Petra Jaya constituents are taken care of if he is given the mandate again.
“I would like to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for the trust placed in me to once again defend Petra Jaya,” he said on Thursday (Nov 3).
On the announcement of the GPS candidates, he said the coalition was continuing with the previous tradition of having experienced hands and new faces.
He said the list also reflected the understanding and agreement between incumbents in giving way to new faces to continue the fight.
“This shows the maturity of politics in GPS as leaders and members adhere to the principle of putting the party first.
“The strong spirit of unity and family is the heart of GPS’ strength, which consists of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
“All 31 candidates, including myself, shoulder a great responsibility and will face a different challenge of Undi18, implemented for the first time,” he said.
Fadillah reminded all candidates and GPS election machinery to not underestimate the opposition as they must work hard to win the support of voters of all ages.
At the same time, the GPS chief whip expressed appreciation for the excellent service of Santubong incumbent Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who chose not to seek reelection.
He also thanked Batang Lupar incumbent Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim and Betong incumbent Datuk Robert Lawson Chua for their services.
