KUCHING: One-day celebration for Gawai Dayak is fair and reasonable amid Covid-19 situation in the state, said Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
“Since the coming Gawai falls on Monday (June 1), it is fair and reasonable for the government to allocate a day of resting not for celebration and merry-making but for those who have been working during the movement control order (MCO) to take a day break,” he said.
He also noted that it is of course not being a good idea to have a celebration and hold open house but a simple meal would suffice.
“A simple meal, not necessarily a big feast, in the family to mark the festive season is an ideal thing to do. At the same time, they should practise social distancing, “kita jaga kita”.
“Big celebration can be skipped considering the importance of keeping our family safe and protected from harm,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
