BETONG: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has named the coalition’s condition for supporting the party that will form the federal government after the 15th general election (GE15).

“Let us be the decision maker in who will be the next federal government. Our condition is that the prime minister must be fair to Sarawak.

“This is our fight as well as all Sarawakians. Let us fight together alongside GPS. We will defend the rights of Sarawak such as in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report.”

He said this when officiating at the closing ceremony of a leadership seminar at Dewan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan here on Today (Nov 12).

Abang Johari said GPS has stood up and be counted in making up the numbers to form the federal government on two occasions.

“Previously, it was Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who did not have the numbers and they had to depend on Sarawak.
“After that, they had another crisis, the Muhyiddin government fell and the people in Malaya asked us again on who we support.

“Our priority is to have political stability, that was why we supported Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as prime minister.”

Meanwhile Abang Johari thanked Betong incumbent MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat for his services to the people of Betong and making way for a new face, Dr Richard Rapu.

“Dr Rapu will bring the voice of Sarawak (to Parliament). Over here, we do not practise racial politics. Looking at our history, the Dayaks and the Malays fought alongside each other, and they are very close together.

Our politics must not be racial-biased. We don’t want this culture to be brought over here, that is why we didn’t want United Malay National Organisation (UMNO) to come to Sarawak.

“We also do not want Bersatu to come to Sarawak, if they come, we will fight them for the sake of Sarawak and the unity of our people,” he said.
